Yes, it IS worth your time!

Last Wednesday 43 participants graduated from Greater Mankato Growth’s Leadership Institute. Each year a graduation dinner is held on the last day to honor the participants’ hard work and dedication to the nine-month program. One of my favorite parts of this event is when class members volunteer to speak about their experiences and observations. One class member, Elisabeth Moat, Manager of the Mankato AmericInn presented a very eloquent and heart-felt testimonial about her experience and agreed to share it on this blog. If you’ve ever considered applying for the program, or if you are a graduate of Leadership Institute, it IS worth your time to read on and according to Elisabeth, it IS worth your time to participate in the program! “Open Courthouse” Offers a Behind the Scenes Look at the Judicial System (and you don’t have to wear handcuffs to get in!)

As Talent Programs Director I enjoy offering “Behind the Scenes” opportunities to participants in our Leadership Institute and Young Professionals programs. That’s why I am eager to spread the word about an opportunity that is being offered tomorrow to the entire community as the Blue Earth County Justice Center opens its doors to the public as part of a Law Day “Open Courthouse” event. The Justice Center is most likely not a building you have spent much time in (if you’re on the right side of the law), so this is truly a rare opportunity! In fact, the Supreme Court visit is one of the most highly-rated parts of our annual Leadership Institute trip to St. Paul. Are you smarter than an 8th grader?

By Shannon Gullickson, Talent Programs Director

No! was the overwhelming response of current Leadership Institute participants during last week’s “Educating our Community’s Future Leaders” session.

Greater Mankato Growth’s Leadership Institute is known for bringing together some of the best and brightest talent working in our community today. So you may ask, how can these participants be outsmarted by 8th graders? Through technology – that’s how!

Growth in YP membership is more than just a number

YP 200 member celebration
Young Professional Membership Committee Co-Chairs Dianna Lyngholm and Jaci Sprague celebrate reaching 200 members!

This past week we celebrated our 200th Greater Mankato Young Professionals (YPs) member.  In fact, today we reached our 204th YP member and the numbers just keep climbing.  Why is this important to members of Greater Mankato Growth and to our community as a whole?  It’s important because the growth in the YPs is not just a number — it’s indicative of the energy and excitement that is growing among those who have recently entered our workforce and have chosen to live and work here.
