Nov 2018 Employment Figures
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development released the November 2018 employment figures today. The Mankato – North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) saw a gain of 1,537 jobs or 2.6% year over year in the month of November, which led all metropolitan areas in the state. This is the 11th straight month of Mankato-North Mankato leading the state in job growth.
Manufacturing saw the highest growth rate ever in the month of November, 1.7% from October 2018. This indicates the manufacturing sector is continuing to ramp up.

Greater Mankato compared to: Metros with a similar “College Age” population
Greater Mankato Growth recently completed the 2018 Economic Report. The report makes three comparisons of the Mankato-North Mankato metropolitan area to similar metropolitan areas in terms of population, geography, and concentration of the college-age population.
This blog post dives into the third and final comparison: MSAs with a similar percentage of “College Age” residents. Of the 382 MSAs in the country, Mankato-North Mankato has the 22nd highest concentration of college-age residents in the country. This is a pertinent analysis because of the significant influence the concentration of 18-24-year-olds has on the economy.
