Blue Earth County Property Tax Penalty Waived Through July 15 for Qualifying Taxpayers

blue earth countyThis morning, the Blue Earth County Board of Commissioners approved a program to provide property tax relief through a waiver of the late payment penalty of first half property tax payments for eligible property tax payers from May 15 to July 15.

While most property taxpayers experiencing a financial hardship related to COVID-19 will qualify, the Health Pandemic Abatement excludes any properties with taxes that are escrowed. To qualify, taxpayers will need to submit a brief application online. Applications must be received no later than May 15, 2020. Property Tax Deferral

property taxOn behalf of our business community, Greater Mankato Growth has been in discussions with County leadership in both Blue Earth and Nicollet Counties regarding concern we’ve heard from several business owners that they will have difficulty making their May 15 property tax payment. Discussions have focused on how counties could waive late payment penalties for property taxes in a way that targets the businesses most impacted, while also not jeopardizing the fiscal stability of our county, city and school district partners.
